MARCH 2008 Platte trail update

I rode the Platte today and there is new trail news. On the Platte Trail earlier this month I reported a detour near the old Gates Rubber Plant. They were dismantling a wooden trestle had been the bike path over the river. In cold weather it got icy and because it was wood I suppose slivers were an issue for some riders.

I'm happy to report the new trail is in place and green stuff has been sprayed on the dirt which will turn to grass. The concrete pillars that used to support the trestle are still visible in the before and after. The new trail goes West of the tree, the old trail went East. Here's some before & after pictures:

Before, looking East. Mile High Stadium in the background.

Before, looking the other direction.

After, looking East. You can see the concrete pylons. I guess they'll remain. The new trail is on the other side of the fence. See Mile High Stadium?

Looking West, notice the tree. The trail used to pass on the left, now it goes to the right.

Here's a picture looking West on the old trail, which is now going to be grass.

Also Farther downstream, near the National Guard Armory the new section is open. The new trail goes under a road & railroad then over the canal.
Here's a before picture looking West:

Here's an after picture looking up this slope from under the bridge the before picture was taken from:

It's a nice addition to the Platte Trail.
